Telangana Braces For Severe Heatwave As IMD Issues Red Alerts
Temperatures likely to cross 45°C in north Telangana districts over next five days; thunderstorms forecast in isolated eastern districts

HYDERABAD: Heatwave conditions are set to intensify across Telangana from Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad (IMD-H) issuing red alerts for several north Telangana districts and forecasting temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius in parts of the state over the next five days.
The IMD said heatwave conditions are likely to begin in isolated pockets of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts from May 14 before extending to additional districts, including Nizamabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar and Peddapalli, by the weekend.
According to the forecast, red alert conditions are expected in parts of Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and neighbouring districts between May 15 and May 17. Maximum temperatures across Telangana are likely to rise gradually by 2°C to 3°C over the next four days.
Adilabad recorded the highest temperature in the state on Wednesday, with 44.7°C logged at Mavala in Ramnagar mandal. Jagtial and Nirmal districts followed with 44.6°C each.
Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 42.4°C at Amberpet, while several GHMC circles, including Mehdipatnam, Charminar, Musheerabad and Begumpet, crossed 41°C.
The IMD said Hyderabad is likely to record maximum temperatures of around 40°C to 41°C over the next 48 hours under partly cloudy and hazy conditions.
Meanwhile, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-50 kmph are likely in parts of Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mahbubabad districts between Wednesday and Friday.
The weather department also said conditions were becoming favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of the south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands around May 16.
