Telangana Braces For More Rain, Thunderstorms From Friday

IMD Forecasts Widespread Rain And Isolated Heavy Showers From Sept. 20 To 23

The state is set for another spell of rain and thunderstorms from Friday, with showers expected to continue into next week, prompting residents to keep raincoats and umbrellas handy and plan for possible travel delays. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places on September 17, at a few places on September 18 and 19, and at many places from September 20 to 23. Isolated heavy rain is also likely in parts of the state from September 20 to 23.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places on September 17-19, while the warning extends to all districts on September 20 and 21.

For Hyderabad, the IMD has forecast light rain or thundershowers with gusty winds in parts of the city towards the evening or night on September 17 and 18. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 34°C on Friday and 33°C over the following 48 hours.

“The rain spell is also expected to bring temperatures down from recent levels, with daytime temperatures likely to settle broadly in the normal 33-35°C range,” a TGDPS scientist said.

Residents commuting to work, schools and other appointments therefore account for slower traffic and possible delays during showers, particularly in the evening. He advised families and commuters also be prepared for changes in travel plans and keep rain gear ready.

The southwest monsoon is not expected to withdraw from Telangana immediately, scientist Dr Y.V. Rao said. “While conditions are becoming favourable for withdrawal from parts of West Rajasthan around September 19, the monsoon is expected to continue over Telangana for some more time, with withdrawal from the state likely only around the second week of October,” he said

According to the immediate outlook, have been advised to carry umbrellas and raincoats, and expect possible delays from tomorrow through the coming week.
