HYDERABAD: An AI-powered offline semantic search engine and an acoustics-based gunshot localisation and detection system were adjudged the best projects at the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME), reflecting the growing role of emerging technologies and indigenous innovation in defence applications.
The projects were showcased during the 109th Convocation of MCEME in Secunderabad, where 45 officers, including four from foreign countries, were awarded BTech degrees. The graduating batch comprised 32 officers from the Degree Engineering (DE-106) course and 13 officers from the Technical Entry Scheme (TES-44) course.
The acoustics-based gunshot localisation and detection system with map overlay was selected as the best project among DE-106 officers, while the AI-powered offline semantic search engine emerged as the best project among TES-44 officers.
Addressing the graduating officers, Lieutenant General Neeraj Varshney, Commandant of MCEME and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, urged them to move beyond comfort zones, challenge mediocrity and strive for professional excellence.
Referring to the principle of “inversion”, he encouraged officers to approach problems from different perspectives and stressed the importance of adaptability, consistency and continuous learning. Drawing from literary works such as ‘Idgah’ and ‘Reti Ke Phool’, he also spoke about perseverance, resilience and delayed gratification.
