Telangana: 57 Scientists Join Telangana Forensic Lab

HYDERABAD: With 57 new recruits, scientific staff at the Telangana State Forensic Science Laboratory (TGFSL) received a significant boost to its manpower.
Telangana DGP C.V. Anand issued appointment orders for the newly recruited scientific staff at TGFSL on Monday.
Shikha Goel, IPS, principal secretary, Home Department and director, FSL, welcomed the personnel and briefed them on the functioning, performance, capabilities and achievements of TGFSL.
She said the laboratory has consistently disposed of more than 80 per cent of its workload despite limited manpower, with the number of cases handled per forensic expert among the highest in the country. In 2025, 8,647 cases were disposed of with a disposal rate of 86 per cent. Priority and time‑bound cases are examined and reports issued within prescribed timelines, ensuring timely forensic support to investigations, she said.
Goel added that TGFSL is equipped with advanced forensic equipment and specialised capabilities in DNA analysis, computer forensics, narcotics, toxicology and other disciplines.
With the increasing volume of narcotics cases and digital evidence, the laboratory has strengthened its capabilities through advanced technology and equipment. It also participates in international collaborative exercises and maintains important accreditations and recognitions.
Highlighting the quality of the new recruits, she said the 57 include 35 Ph.D. holders, 12 M.Sc. graduates, five M.Tech. graduates and three MCA graduates. Their induction will significantly strengthen TGFSL’s capacity to provide timely, accurate and scientifically reliable forensic services to the police and the criminal justice system.
Speaking on the occasion, Anand congratulated the recruits and highlighted the growing importance of scientific evidence under the new criminal laws.
He advised them to dedicate themselves fully to forensic work, continuously improve their skills and ensure timely and accurate examination of evidence without compromising quality, particularly in sensitive and sensational cases.
The DGP encouraged the recruits to make full use of their training, professional exposure and advanced forensic facilities at TGFSL to improve their skills and contribute effectively to scientific investigation. Appreciating the laboratory’s performance despite constrained manpower and resources, he expressed confidence that the induction of highly qualified personnel would further improve its capacity and efficiency.
He assured necessary support for strengthening manpower, infrastructure, advanced equipment and other operational requirements. TGFSL is NABL accredited and has been notified as a Government Examiner of Electronic Evidence under Section 79A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
