Telangana: 47 govt junior colleges run without principals

Hyderabad: Fortyseven government junior colleges are operating without regular principals, a crucial factor with the Intermediate practical exams scheduled in February and public exams are in March.
Of the 425 government junior colleges in the state, which cater to economically weaker students, the absence of principals in more than 10 per cent of the institutions has disrupted operations, affecting teaching, administration, and overall quality of education, especially in remote and tribal areas.
To manage the vacancies, principals from other colleges were given additional charge, and, in some cases, senior junior lecturers were assigned as in-charge principals. Besides the 47 vacancies in Multi-Zone I and II, more vacancies are expected due to retirements this year.
An official from Telangana Board of Intermediate confirmed that they have requested the government for approval for principal promotions. "Once approval is received, we will initiate the departmental promotion committee process to fill the vacant posts," the official informed.
