Telangana: 4 Held For Crypto Fraud In Chandrayangutta

HYDERABAD: Four individuals involved in cryptocurrency-based cheating and extortion were arrested by the Bandlaguda police on Monday.

The accused’s modus operandi was to approach the victims through social media, luring them in the name of cryptocurrency transactions and after gaining confidence, they allegedly called them to a particular location on the pretext of facilitating transactions and thereafter committing the offence.

The scammers on August 18 trapped the victim J.R. Chowdary through social media and visited his house in Ismailnagar, Bandlaguda and snatched ₹7 lakh and fled the scene, R. Davender, SHO of Bandlaguda police station, said. Based on Chowdary’s complaint, a special team examined the CCTV footage and tracked the four accused to Kings Snooker in Chandrayangutta, Davender said.

The arrested accused were identified as Saber Bin Ahmed Hadrani alias Saif, 23, Mohammed Abul Salam, 18, Mohammed Anas, 21, and Mohammed Asif 27, the SHO said.

The investigation further revealed the accused were involved in four similar offences, and were produced before the court for judicial remand.
