Telangana: 3-Decade Bus Stand Row Reignites Political Battle Over Kazipet’s YSR Nagar

HANUMKONDA: The long-pending demand for a permanent bus stand in Kazipet has triggered fresh political debate over the future of YSR Nagar, with residents raising concerns over possible relocation and the use of the land for the proposed facility.
The issue has gained political significance ahead of the municipal elections, with questions being raised over whether the colony would be relocated under the Indiramma housing scheme or whether the land would be cleared for the bus stand.
YSR Nagar, located near Kazipet crossroads, has recently become the focus of political activity and local concern. Residents have alleged that efforts are being made to relocate them under the Indiramma housing scheme, though there has been no official confirmation of the claims.
Residents said no major political party had strongly opposed the establishment of huts and other structures in YSR Nagar on the grounds that the land was required for a bus stand. They questioned the revival of the demand for the site when the issue of a permanent bus stand had remained unresolved for nearly three decades despite meetings, resolutions and protests.
The Medaram bus stand is currently operating temporarily from the Railway Stadium area. Some residents have suggested relocating the stadium and constructing a permanent bus stand at the site. They said a commercial complex around the proposed bus stand could improve passenger amenities and address the problems faced by small traders.
Residents are demanding land rights and construction of Indiramma houses in the existing colony instead of relocation. They have suggested that any surplus land could be used for a hospital, while the Railway Stadium area could be developed as the permanent bus stand.
More than half of the huts in YSR Nagar have reportedly been vacated, raising concerns among residents over whether those who leave their homes would be allotted houses under the Indiramma scheme. It is also alleged that a former local public representative is involved in the developments.
There are further allegations that ruling party leaders have reached an understanding with persons claiming ownership of the land. BJP and BRS leaders have visited YSR Nagar and assured residents of their support.
The issue has also drawn attention to the silence of local MLA Naini Rajender Reddy. Residents said they had submitted complaints and raised the matter through the media but had received no public response from the MLA.
Residents have alleged that the MLA’s close associates are attempting to take control of the land with his backing. They have also raised allegations of financial transactions involving a person claiming ownership of the land.
As political activity intensifies ahead of the municipal elections, the question remains whether Kazipet’s long-pending demand for a permanent bus stand will be resolved or continue as an electoral issue.
