Telangana: 100 Underage Drivers in Police Net

Superintendent of Police G. Janaki Sharmila said officers counselled 296 people — including minors, pillion riders and parents — on road-safety rules. “With summer holidays beginning, we urge parents not to hand over bikes to children,” she warned, adding that further violations will bring fines and legal action under the Police Act.

Adilabad: A district-wide traffic drive on Sunday netted 100 under-age motorcyclists and led police to register cases against their parents, the registered owners of the vehicles, for violating the Motor Vehicles Act.

Additional SPs Avinash Kumar (Bhainsa) and Rajesh Menon (Nirmal) oversaw Sunday’s sessions, while additional SP Upender Reddy will hold a follow-up counselling programme on Tuesday. Police stressed that under-age riders pose a serious risk to themselves and others, and vowed continued enforcement to curb accidents.
