HYDERABAD: A 23‑year‑old software engineer from Manikonda was cheated of ₹2.19 lakh after falling prey to a fake online job racket that lured her with offers of paid voice reviews and Google ratings for hotels and restaurants, according to the Cyberabad cybercrime police.
Officials said the victim had come across an Instagram advertisement claiming to hire “voice actors.” After registering, she received instructions via WhatsApp and was asked to send a sample audio review. She was later directed to a Telegram “receptionist,” who credited ₹160 as a sign‑in bonus and added her to a group where daily tasks involved posting Google reviews.
Initially, the victim received small payouts, but was soon introduced to “pre‑paid tasks” requiring deposits. She paid ₹1,000 to join the first such task and was asked to create an account on a website where she was instructed to buy stocks. The platform displayed virtual profits and even allowed her to withdraw ₹300, encouraging her to invest further.
Over time, she made additional payments before being told that task levels had increased. A new Telegram “receptionist” demanded larger sums. During one group task, she was told a wrong stock had been purchased, freezing her account. She was then asked to pay ₹60,000 and later ₹1 lakh to unfreeze it.
When she attempted to withdraw funds, she was informed her “credit score” had dropped and was asked to pay ₹5,000 per point to restore it. Realising she had been duped, she approached police.
