Tech-Driven Policing Cuts Crime In Warangal, Karimnagar And Ramagundam

Recovery of stolen property, a key indicator of public trust, also showed improvement. Karimnagar set a benchmark by increasing its recovery rate by 24 per cent, returning over Rs 2.04 crore worth of property to citizens: Reports

WARANGAL: The annual crime reports for 2025 have revealed a positive shift in law enforcement across key urban areas under the Warangal, Karimnagar and Ramagundam Police Commissionerates in the erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts.

While each region faced distinct challenges, ranging from drug trafficking in Warangal to property crimes in Karimnagar and industrial surveillance concerns in Ramagundam, the overall trend pointed towards a technology-first policing model.

Among the three, Karimnagar emerged as the leader in crime reduction, recording a significant 16.84 per cent drop in overall cases. Warangal registered a marginal increase of 0.53 per cent, with 14,456 cases, which officials attributed to more proactive registration rather than a rise in criminal activity. Ramagundam maintained a stable crime rate and achieved a notable reduction in murders, from 46 to 33, reflecting improved local dispute resolution.

Recovery of stolen property, a key indicator of public trust, also showed improvement. Karimnagar set a benchmark by increasing its recovery rate by 24 per cent, returning over Rs 2.04 crore worth of property to citizens. Ramagundam recorded a 10 per cent increase in recovery, while Warangal, through its specialised Crime Control Squad (CCS), recovered property worth Rs 79 lakh from inter-State gangs.

All three Commissionerates reported a decline in crimes against women, highlighting the impact of the SHE Teams initiative. Karimnagar recorded a 5.18 per cent reduction, Warangal saw a 3.6 per cent decline, particularly in rape and domestic violence cases, and Ramagundam strengthened its Village Defence Squads to enhance safety in remote industrial areas.

The year 2025 was marked by a strong push towards digital policing. Ramagundam stood out with ‘Operation Garuda’, deploying high-tech drones for patrolling and monitoring illegal sand mining. Karimnagar utilised its Cyber Forensic Lab to recover 500 stolen mobile phones and solve 205 critical cases using Call Detail Record (CDR) analysis. Warangal prioritised the ‘Nenu Saitham’ CCTV project, which played a crucial role in identifying inter-State criminal gangs.

The fight against narcotics was most pronounced in Warangal, where police seized drugs worth Rs 8.62 crore, including 1,700 kg of ganja. On traffic enforcement, all three regions stepped up action. Warangal and Karimnagar intensified drunk-driving checks, with Warangal sending 887 offenders to jail, while Karimnagar issued e-challans worth over Rs 32.8 lakh to enforce road discipline.

While Karimnagar led in statistical crime reduction and Warangal in large-scale action against organised crime, Ramagundam stood out for its advanced use of drone technology. Collectively, the annual reports indicate that areas under the three Police Commissionerates are becoming safer through a combination of strict enforcement, community participation and technological innovation.
