Teachers Urge Promotions Pending Court Verdicts

The association said faculty appointed in 2014 have been awaiting promotions for over a decade and have faced considerable uncertainty during this period

HYDERABAD: The Telangana All Universities Teachers Association (TAUTA) has urged Telangana University to grant promotions to all faculty members appointed in 2014, subject to the final verdicts of the Division Bench of the High Court. A delegation led by association president Prof. Gaddam Mallesham submitted a representation to Vice Chancellor Prof. T. Yadagiri Rao and registrar Prof. M. Yadagiri in Nizamabad on Tuesday.

The association said faculty appointed in 2014 have been awaiting promotions for over a decade and have faced considerable uncertainty during this period. It stated that the issue has caused severe mental stress among affected teachers for the past 12 years. The delegation also comprised general secretary Prof. Ch. Srinivas, vice‑president Prof. Chalamala Venkateshwarlu, and advisers Prof. C. Kasim, Prof. Akhtar Ali and Prof. Maddileti.

Association representatives pointed out that the state government and the higher education department have taken a positive approach towards promotions in universities and other departments across Telangana. They urged the university administration to complete the promotion process without further delay, while making the promotions subject to the outcome of pending court cases.

Referring to the Supreme Court judgment and principles of natural justice, the association said eligible faculty should not be denied career advancement indefinitely because of prolonged legal proceedings. It also warned that if the promotion process is not initiated, employees have the democratic right to express their concerns through peaceful and lawful means.

The programme was attended by representatives of the Telangana University Teachers Association, including Dr A. Punnaiah, Dr Mohan Babu, Dr Adike Nagaraju, Dr Satyanarayana Reddy and Dr Rajeshwari, among others.
