Teachers Demand Repeal of NEP 2020
The women’s conference, chaired by STFI national leader Badarunnisa, passed a resolution stating that women’s rights are social rights and must be secured through a nationwide movement.

Hyderabad: The School Teachers Federation of India (STFI) has demanded the repeal of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the creation of a Constitution-compliant public education system. Speaking at the three-day silver jubilee national conference in Kolkata, STFI leaders said the push towards privatisation, corporatisation, centralisation and communalisation has shut down thousands of government schools while boosting enrolment in private and corporate institutions.
They warned that centralised agencies such as the National Testing Agency erode state authority and that vacancies in teaching posts are being filled with temporary staff instead of regular appointments. The resolution against NEP 2020 was moved by STFI vice president and Telangana School United Teachers Federation (TSUTF) state president Chava Ravi, who said the policy fosters unscientific thought and imposes a single language on a diverse country.
Further, the women’s conference, chaired by STFI national leader Badarunnisa, passed a resolution stating that women’s rights are social rights and must be secured through a nationwide movement. Former MP and AIDWA leader Malini Bhattacharya cited rising incidents of violence against women, the neglect of laws such as the Domestic Violence Act, and wage inequality. She criticised regressive mindsets rooted in Manusmriti and called on teachers to actively mobilise for gender justice. Telangana sent 38 delegates to the conference, which drew 560 representatives from across India.
