Tamil, Malayali Communities Celebrate Poll Results in Hyderabad

Vijay’s TVK draws cheers in Secunderabad; UDF gains a warm response too

Hyderabad: Members of the Tamil and Keralite diaspora in Hyderabad celebrated election results on Monday, with many expressing satisfaction after travelling to their native places to vote.

In Secunderabad Cantonment, where sizeable Tamil and Malayali communities reside, celebrations included exchange of greetings and distribution of sweets as counting trends indicated favourable outcomes. Supporters of actor-turned-politician Vijay marked the performance of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), with rallies, displaying party flags on vehicles and gathering in groups to watch results.

“Our entire family was eagerly awaiting the result, and we are overjoyed that it went in Vijay’s favour. A large section of the Tamil community in the city supports him, as many of us are long-time fans of his films and the roles he has chosen,” said Emmanuel, a resident of Valluvarnagar, in Yapral.

P. Rajendran, representative of a welfare association, said: “The people backed Vijay because he gave up a peak film career to enter politics and serve the downtrodden.”

He added, “The Tamil Nadu verdict signals a demand for young leadership. Telangana, too, chose youth with Revanth Reddy as Chief Minister. Now, Vijay is expected to amplify the voices of the poorest.”

Members of the Keralite community also welcomed the outcome, particularly those who had travelled to Kerala to vote. The performance of the United Democratic Front (UDF) drew a positive response among supporters.

“In Kerala, we need development and jobs for the youth. The lack of opportunities has forced many families to migrate. This victory represents that change, and the community here is delighted,” said Kannatt Surendran of the World Malayali Council.
