Take Up Party Name Issue With ECI Only, Delhi HC Tells Kavitha
Kavitha’s party had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to the ECI that it should not ask for the dropping of the party name with the ‘TRS’ initials.

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rakshana Sena president K. Kavitha’s efforts to retain the ‘TRS’ tag for her political party hit a speed-breaker on Tuesday with the Delhi High Court advising the party to clarify to the Election Commission of India the questions the poll panel had raised with respect to registering of the party name.
Kavitha’s party had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to the ECI that it should not ask for the dropping of the party name with the ‘TRS’ initials. The court informed the petitioners on Tuesday that it could not pronounce any judgment on this matter as that would amount to intervening in the ECI’s functioning.
Instead, the court advised Kavitha’s lawyers that she should respond to the June 23 letter from the ECI seeking alternative name suggestions for her party. It may be recalled that the ECI, citing objections it received as part of the process of registering the name of the political party as Telangana Rakshana Sena with a TRS tag, had asked Kavitha to suggest alternate names.
