Swachh Bharat Yatra Sets Out on 37-Day Cleanliness Drive

The yatra aims to demonstrate how cleanliness and waste management can be practised on the ground through direct public participation.

Hyderabad: The Swachh Bharat Yatra, a nationwide cleanliness and circular economy initiative, began on Monday, a start of a 37-day journey across 25 locations natonwide. The campaign is being led by Switcheko in collaboration with the Centre, the state government and PlastIndia 2026.

The yatra aims to demonstrate how cleanliness and waste management can be practised on the ground through direct public participation. A team of eight sustainability volunteers will carry out daily plogging activities, covering nearly 45 km each day while collecting waste and engaging with local communities.

A major feature of the initiative is live, on-site recycling using a mobile processing truck, enabling waste collected during the drive to be processed immediately. The team will also conduct hands-on awareness sessions on waste segregation and basic circular economy practices, focusing on simple steps that households and communities can adopt.

The journey started in Hyderabad on Monday and will go on till January 21. It will travel through cities such as New Delhi, Jaipur and Amaravati before returning to Hyderabad for the grand finale on February 16.
