SVPNPA Expands Training for Its 78th Regular Recruit batch, Includes AI-related crimes, Ethical Conduct
The revised training also puts greater attention on ethical conduct, communication skills and officers’ behaviour towards citizens.

Hyderabad:The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) has expanded training for its 78th Regular Recruit batch to address AI-related crimes, illegal immigration and changing patterns of protests. It has also introduced psychometric assessments and new systems to monitor physical fitness and injuries. The revised training also puts greater attention on ethical conduct, communication skills and officers’ behaviour towards citizens.
“We expose them to AI, machine learning, cybersecurity and big data analytics,” said Sujeet Pandey, academy director, at a press conference on Thursday ahead of the October 17 passing-out parade. He identified illegal immigration, changing protest dynamics, actors operating from outside the country and information warfare among the emerging public-order and security challenges also being addressed in the curriculum.
Among the 151 trainees of the batch includes 135 IPS probationers, 16 foreign officers from Nepal Bhutan and Maldives and 37 women. The Union home secretary Govind Mohan will be the chief guest at the October 17 Dikshant Parade.
“This year we also introduced them to fire safety, disaster management and greater attention has also been given to communcation skills, public speaking, media management and officers’ responses to stressful situations,” Pandey said while addressing questions on police restraint following the recent incidents in Delhi. The academy has also introduced instruction on prison reforms and Indian Knowledge Systems.
The indoor curriculum covers the three new criminal laws, investigation, forensic science, ethics and human rights. Practical instruction includes simulated investigations, riot-control exercises, moot courts and role plays. Probationers also visit police stations, prisons, hospitals, orphanages and shelters for survivors of human trafficking. According to the academy, visits to orphanages and shelters are intended to develop empathy and social awareness, while deployments during festivals like Ganesh Visarjan and cricket matches provide experience in crowd management.
The academy has introduced psychometric assessments in collaboration with the Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR). All 151 trainees were evaluated on 11 parameters relating to personality, ethics and behaviour under stress. Pandey said the exercise was conducted for the first time for this batch and spoke about expanding training in drone technology and urban warfare. “The government have been very kind to give us more land,” he said. The additional land is at Ibrahimpatnam, though he did not specify the facilities proposed there.
