Park became home to rare medicinal plants, enhancing its environmental value

Hyderabad: Suryanagar Park in Shaikpet won the First Gold Garden Award at the 8th Garden Festival 2025, marking its third consecutive victory. The award was presented at a ceremony in Public Gardens, Hyderabad, where resident Asif Sohail received the honour from Telangana’s director of horticulture, S. Yasmi Basha.
With manicured landscapes, an open-air gym and walking tracks, the park attracts daily visitors, including families, senior citizens and fitness enthusiasts. The park is also home to rare medicinal plants, enhancing its environmental value, said J.S. Mamatha, a regular visitor talking to Deccan Chronicle.
Residents said the Suryanagar Park is more than just a green space. “It serves as a community hub, hosting social awareness programmes on drug abuse, dowry and crime prevention, run by the Sakina Foundation. The park is also the venue for Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations, a sense of unity among residents,” Zubair, another local said.
