Survey Stalled as Villagers Clash over Narayanpur Reservoir Land Acquisition

Police said both groups later lodged complaints against each other

KARIMNAGAR: Tension prevailed at Narayanpur village in Gangadhara mandal on Saturday after two groups of villagers argued over the proposed acquisition of houses for the Narayanpur reservoir project, forcing officials to suspend a house survey.

Police said both groups later lodged complaints against each other.

The state government has proposed acquiring 40 houses located near the reservoir bund as part of works to strengthen the embankment.

However, another section of villagers demanded that the entire village be acquired under the project. They had raised the demand during a public hearing held on July 15.

Officials visited the village on Saturday to conduct a survey of the 40 houses identified for acquisition. Villagers whose houses were not included in the proposal protested and demanded that the survey be stopped.

The protest led to an argument between the agitators and beneficiaries of the proposed acquisition, resulting in a brief scuffle.

Police rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control and dispersed the two groups. Survey officials returned without conducting the survey.

Both groups later lodged complaints with the Gangadhara police, who are investigating the incident.
