Surrenders Reflect Ideology Erosion Among Maoists, Say DGP

HYDERABAD: Forty-one Maoist cadres, including six company platoon committee members, including two from Telangana, surrendered before Director-General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy by giving up arms on Friday.

The Maoists who surrendered from Telangana included Erragolla Ravi, 40, of Arepally, Kamareddy district, who had been underground for 24 years and Kanikarapu Prabhanjan, 33, Jannaram, Mancherial district.

Speaking at the event, Shivadhar Reddy said that the surrenders represented a significant erosion of organisational strength, morale, and leadership credibility of the Maoists.

The surrendered Maoists gave up an Insas light machine gun, three AK-47 rifles, five self-loading rifles, seven Insas rifles, a barrel grenade launcher, four 303 rifles, a single-shot rifle and two air guns. “The cadres had handed over 24 firearms and 733 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres and eight BGL shells.”

The DGP handed over `1.46-crore reward amount to the surrendered cadres as part of the relief and rehabilitation programmes of the central and state government. An interim relief of `25,000 each has now been handed over to all the 41 surrendered.

The state police said that all entitled benefits will be provided promptly, enabling the surrendered cadres to rebuild their lives with dignity and security.

The DGP also called upon Telangana state committee secretary Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar to surrender before the police.
