Surprise Checks Of V&E Dept. Net Rs.9.6 Lakhs In Fines

The operation targeted the prevention of public revenue leakage, including tax evasion and the illegal transport of goods.

WARANGAL: The vigilance and enforcement (V&E) department in collaboration with the transport, state GST GST and mines officials conducted two major surprise route checks on Tuesday resulting in the interception of numerous vehicles and imposition of penalties totalling around Rs 9.63 lakh. The operation targeted the prevention of public revenue leakage, including tax evasion and the illegal transport of goods.

Director General, V&E, Shika Goel said the department’s was committed to preventing the leakage of public revenue and the misuse of government funds and natural resources. She invited members of the public to report irregularities on the toll-free number 14432.

At Gudepahad outskirts in Hanamkonda district, the V&E Warangal unit intercepted 115 vehicles. Fines worth Rs 3.3 lakh were imposed on 17 vehicles. The transport department imposed fines of Rs 1.7 lakh for non-payment of vehicle tax, the tax department Rs 1.55 lakh for evasion of GST and the mines department imposed fines of Rs 5,000 for transporting excess quantities of gravel.

At a similar check on the intervening night of December 8 and 9, a similar check was carried out at Shamirpet Outer Ring Road by the Medchal Malkajgiri unit, resulting in the total penalties of Rs 6.33 lakh. The RTA booked seven vehicles and imposed fines of Rs 5.34 lakh for MV Act violations and detained five vehicles. The tax department booked one vehicle for transporting goods without proper bills, imposing a challan of Rs 99,360 and detained the vehicle.
