Surekha Flays CM, Party Leadership

She demanded that the party first take action against those ministers and leaders before initiating action against her.

Karimnagar:Senior Congress leader and minister Konda Surekha on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the state party leadership amid reports that disciplinary action was likely to be taken against her.

Speaking to the media after meeting AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi, Surekha said she would not remain silent if action was taken against her. Action must first be taken against the Chief Minister, who indulged in indiscipline, she demanded.

Surekha said she had submitted a written explanation to the party high command on the developments in the state. Nobody had so far asked her to resign, she said, and warned of serious consequences if she was removed from the cabinet.

Telangana society would not accept such a move against her, she said.

Questioning Revanth Reddy’s statement that he would remain CM for the next 10 years, Surekha asked whether such a public announcement did not amount to indiscipline.

She also questioned the CM’s authority to announce party tickets at public meetings and asked how he alone could decide candidates for the next election.

Referring to allegations of corruption and irregularities in the government and party, Surekha said there were allegations against some ministers and leaders and asked who would answer them.

She demanded that the party first take action against those ministers and leaders before initiating action against her.

Surekha said a few cabinet ministers and public representatives were unhappy with the developments in the party. Expressing displeasure over developments in the Congress, Surekha alleged that she had been deliberately targeted because she was a senior woman leader from the BC community.

She alleged that the party treated BCs differently from other communities.

Reacting to comments made by her daughter Susmitha, Surekha questioned how she could be held responsible for her daughter’s statements.

She also questioned the justification for the party taking action against her when Rahul Gandhi was stressing the “independent growth of women and their freedom to express their opinions.”
