Sudden hailstorm damages crops, harvest, power infra in 3 districts

In Jangaon district, mandals such as Lingalaghanpur, Chilpur, Jangaon Rural, Devaruppula, Raiparthy, and Station Ghanpur bore the brunt of the storm. Harvested paddy was soaked and standing crops flattened.

WARANGAL: A sudden hailstorm accompanied by strong winds swept across several mandals in Jangaon, Warangal, and Mulugu districts on Sunday night, causing extensive damage to standing crops, harvested produce, electricity infrastructure, and public property.

In Jangaon district, mandals such as Lingalaghanpur, Chilpur, Jangaon Rural, Devaruppula, Raiparthy, and Station Ghanpur bore the brunt of the storm. Harvested paddy was soaked and standing crops flattened. In Fatehpur, paddy fields were inundated, while in Vadlakonda, farmers were seen manually draining water from soaked heaps. Roof sheets were blown off homes in Enabavi, and mangoes were scattered across orchards in Mandarin Gudem.

Power lines snapped and poles collapsed in Manikyapur, Marrithanda, Kallem, and Enabavi, resulting in outages. In Jangaon Rural, an estimated 150–200 acres of paddy near harvest stage were damaged in Siddenki and Pembarthi. Thousands of paddy bags stored in Gaganpahad and Vaddlakonda were drenched.

A massive neem tree fell inside the Jangaon RTC depot parking area, crushing several two-wheelers, though no casualties were reported. Flex boards at the RTC junction were also torn down by the wind.

In Warangal district, Rayaparthy mandal, particularly Jinkuram Thanda and Kolanpalli, reported severe damage to crops and widespread panic among residents during the 30-minute storm.

Mulugu district’s Eturunagaram agency area saw heavy rain and flooding, with the bus stand premises submerged. In Tallagadda, a palm tree collapsed onto a house, causing damage but no injuries. Villages like Ramnagar, Sivapuram, Shopally, and Pasakapuram in Tadvai mandal reported destruction of hundreds of acres of paddy. In Mangapet, farmers were left scrambling as stored paddy at procurement centres was soaked.

BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy visited affected villages in Jangaon district, including Siddanki, Ellamla, and Pembarthi. He urged the government to provide compensation of ₹10,000 per acre to farmers and directed agriculture officials to conduct a survey of the damaged crops, including horticultural varieties like mango, sweet lime, and sapota.

Station Ghanpur MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari also instructed officials to inspect affected areas, submit preliminary damage reports, and ensure harvested produce is secured in storage to prevent further losses.
