Students Walk 1 Km Daily for Mid-Day Meals
Around 100 students are affected, as meals continue to be prepared at the old school building in nearby Mirzapur of Nasrullabad mandal.

Karimnagar:Students of a government school in Veerapur village of Birkur mandal in Kamareddy district are walking about 1 km daily to access mid-day meals due to the absence of a kitchen facility at the new school premises.
Around 100 students are affected, as meals continue to be prepared at the old school building in nearby Mirzapur of Nasrullabad mandal.
The primary and high school earlier functioned from the same premises in Mirzapur, where a common kitchen was used. After the old building became dilapidated, a new school building was constructed on the outskirts of Veerapur in 2018 and classes were shifted.
However, a kitchen shed has not been constructed at the new campus even after several years, resulting in continued use of the old facility for meal preparation.
Students carry plates to the old building to collect food and return to the new campus to eat, as there is insufficient space at the old premises. The distance between the two buildings is about half a kilometre each way.
Nasrullabad mandal education officer D. Chander said proposals for constructing a kitchen shed at the new school were submitted to the government six months ago and work would begin after funds are released.
