Students Take Out Tiranga Rally

Krishnayya, while addressing participants at a Tiranga rally held under the leadership of BC Students Association president Vemula Ramakrishna. On Wednesday, despite rain, the students marched with the Tricolour in hand, and they were chanting “Mera Bharat Mahan” and “Vande Mataram.” Krishnayya stressed the country’s future rests in the hands of youth and called for India to become fully literate. He said education should be the same for the rich and the poor and that young people should enter politics. He also requested both the central and state governments to help strengthen the intellectual capacity of the youth so that India could become a leading nation.

GHMC chief calls for fight against drug abuse

Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan has called for collective action to combat drug abuse, stressing the role of youth in building a drug free society. He was speaking at a pledge taking ceremony of GHMC officials and staff under the Nash Mukht Bharat Abhiyan on Wednesday.

He said youth are backbone of the nation and their involvement is vital for societal and national development. He urged individuals to pledge not only for themselves but also for their families, friends and communities to eradicate drug use.

GHMC officials and staff vowed to work towards making their districts and the state drug free as part of the nationwide programme.

The event was attended by additional commissioners Raghu Prasad, Venugopal, Pankaja, and other senior officials and staff.

GHMC to use GIS for drain mapping

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to implement a GIS-based survey and mapping of stormwater drains within its limits.

The stormwater drain geo-mapping is the process of digitally mapping the entire stormwater drainage network using GIS technology on base map created by drone survey.

It involves collecting accurate location, dimension and connectivity data for all drain lines, culverts, catch pits and linking them with geospatial coordinates. It will also helps in developing storm water drain master plan.

According to GHMC, the survey aims to model flow patterns, flood risk assessment and mitigation, simulate rainfall impact, enhance infrastructure planning, support smart city water management systems, strengthen emergency response during heavy rainfall and enable real time monitoring. Visual maps will be shared with communities to raise awareness of local drainage systems and encourage citizen participation reporting.

Irrigation department issues Manjeera flood alert

Hyderabad: Due to heavy rainfall forecasts in the upstream areas of the Singur Project and an inflow of 5,000 cusecs of floodwater, the irrigation department has announced that water may be released at any time on Wednesday through the project powerhouse and gates, as directed by higher authorities.

In coordination, the water board will also release water from the Manjeera Dam. Residents in downstream areas of the Manjeera Dam have been advised to take precautionary measures. The Water Board urged vigilance along the Manjeera river basin, specifically warning cattle herders, shepherds and fishermen not to enter the river.

Cops take pledge against drug abuse

Hyderabad: The officers and staff at the DGP office were administered a pledge against substance abuse under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, on Wednesday. Inspector General of Police (provision and logistics) M. Ramesh while administering the pledge to officers and staffers, reaffirmed the commitment of the police force to protect society particularly the youth from the harmful effects of drug abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh exhorted that drug abuse poses a grave threat to public health, safety and future of young generations. He told staffers to intensify public awareness drive, strengthen enforcement measures and work in close coordination with the community to eliminate drug trafficking and consumption. The event was attended by M. Ramana Kumar, AIG (law and order), DSP Uday Bhaskar and other senior officers and staff of the DGP office.
