Students create 600 AI-driven solutions at IIIT-Hyd hackathon

Hyderabad: More than 2,000 students drawn from 20 colleges participated in a hackathon at IIIT-Hyderabad on January 25, wherein they created 600 AI-driven solutions, to tackle real-world challenges in just one day. Jointly organised by IIIT-Hyderabad and Swecha.org under Viswam.AI, this event was the first step, in a series, focusing on developing community-oriented AI solutions for India.

The hackathon is the part of a three-stage initiative and it will conclude with AI Days 2025 Spark Camp, wherein 100 production-ready AI applications will be crafted to address country’s challenges. Participants developed prototypes, including AI-based audio tools, story generation platforms, and image AI applications.
Bhavesh Mishra, IAS, who was a part of the event, spoke on the importance of building indigenous AI models, tailored to India’s needs like DeepSeek LLM. The faculty, researchers, and industry leaders, including prof. Ramesh Loganathan (IIIT-Hyderabad), Chaitanya Chokkareddy (Ozonetel), and Pradeep Kumar Jilagam (Micron Technology), mentored students throughout the event.
The purpose of the hackathon is to equip students with advanced AI skills through initiatives like the One Lakh Internship programme, which encourages engagement with local communities, development of culture-specific datasets, and creation of AI solutions, reflecting on country’s diverse linguistic and regional challenges.
