Stray Dog Feud Pushes Woman To Brink

Pratibha is known to be feeding 15 stray dogs near her house every day. Around three of them were adopted by her three months back: Reports

HYDERABAD: A 36-year-old woman, Pratibha, who had attempted to suicide allegedly after being threatened by her neighbours over feeding of stray dogs, was stated to be in a stable condition by the Ameenpur police. No case has been registered in this regard so far. Pratibha’s supporters said they had submitted a formal complaint with the police.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Gowri Vandana, founder of AASRA NGO, who is familiar with the victim, said, “Pratibha has been enduring this harassment for three-four months.” The founder of another NGO had also threatened to seize her house although the NGO has no authority to do so, Vandana said. “They all have caused her physical and mental distress. Her current reports show she has been inflicted with an ulcer in her oesophagus,” she added.

According to police, the issue between the victim, Pratibha, and the colony residents has been longstanding. In this regard, several complaints and counter complaints have been lodged with the Ameenpur police station.

Pratibha is known to be feeding 15 stray dogs near her house every day. Around three of them were adopted by her three months back.

Residents complained that these dogs reportedly bit elderly people and even frightened children, who “avoided stepping out” even during festivals. As arguments escalated, Pratibha had lodged a police complaint against the residents’ alleging threats and harassment. A counter complaint was lodged by the residents against Pratibha with similar allegations.

On the day of the incident, an NGO worker, Deepthika Palati, reportedly “trespassed” into the house of the victim and on the pretext of verifying whether the dogs were vaccinated and were ‘fit for adoption’. When Pratibha asked Deepthi whether she was authorised to ask for the documents, she threatened to seize her house according to a purported video of the incident. Vexed by this, Pratibha reportedly went to the washroom and attempted to die by suicide. She was shifted to a nearby hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Police sources said Pratibha had allegedly threatened residents with charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Claims made by both parties are being verified, and further investigation is underway. ENDS

NIA Raids Ex-PWG Leader Gade Innaiah’s House

HYDERABAD, JAN. 13

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday raided the premises of Gade Innaiah, former People’s War Group (PWG) leader and Bharat Bachao general secretary, who was arrested recently for allegedly delivering speeches threatening India’s sovereignty and promoting Maoist ideology.

A 30‑member NIA team, accompanied by quick reaction personnel, searched Innaiah’s house and ashram at Zaffergadh in Jangaon district to collect evidence in connection with the case registered against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. This was the second raid at Zaffergadh since his arrest last month.

Officials said Innaiah’s speeches were intended to further Maoist activities and allegedly incited audiences to participate in an armed revolution against the Indian government and security forces. The agency claimed to have video evidence of him delivering provocative remarks at a memorial meeting for deceased Maoist leader Katta Ramachandra Reddy, alias Vikalp, attended by 150 – 200 people.

Investigators noted that Innaiah had recently travelled to Chhattisgarh to meet the family of slain Maoist leader Hidma Madvi and had appeared in several YouTube interviews. He also publicly criticised Operation Kakar, describing it as a conspiracy by the Central government. ENDS
