Jaipur: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday criticized the Central government’s efforts to impose Hindi and warned against penalizing the southern states during the upcoming delimitation of constituencies. He was speaking at an event held in Jaipur.
KTR emphasized that language is not just a tool of communication but a vital part of cultural identity. “India has 22 official languages and nearly 300 unofficial ones. Why is there an attempt to impose Hindi, while no one is trying to impose Telugu?” he questioned.
He urged the Union government to respect the linguistic diversity of the country and warned against creating cultural dominance through language. “Language is tied to our heritage. Imposing one language over others distorts the very idea of India,” he said.
Addressing the issue of delimitation, KTR raised concerns that southern states, which have successfully implemented population control measures, could be unfairly affected. “It is unjust to punish the South for doing the right thing. If population becomes the sole basis for increasing seats, the states that managed growth effectively will lose representation, while others may gain from inefficiency,” he said.
He also referred to recent controversies surrounding the voter list revisions in Bihar and expressed concern about rising political polarization. “It’s easy to stir hatred for political gain. Just because people are not protesting on the streets doesn’t mean they are satisfied. There’s growing discontent with the political system,” he added.
