Stop Congress Govt from Selling TG Transco, Harish Tells Rahul Gandhi

Harish Rao said there were reports that the state government planned to initially dilute the state’s equity in TG Transco by 26 per cent.

HYDERABAD: Senior BRS leader and former finance minister T. Harish Rao on Friday urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to stop the Telangana government from privatising the state’s power sector utilities, as well as the Singareni Collieries Company Limited.

In a letter to Rahul Gandhi, Harish Rao said the state government’s moves were a direct challenge to Rahul Gandhi’s credibility as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and how the Congress leader took a stand against corporate concentration, and monetisation of public assets.

Harish Rao said there were reports that the state government planned to initially dilute the state’s equity in TG Transco by 26 per cent. This would be followed by similar moves with TG Genco, SCCL and the discoms, he said. Rahul Gandhi should direct the state government to clarify how these proposals were in accordance with Congress’ 2019 manifesto and its 2023 Raipur Economic Resolution, Harish Rao said.

Urging Rahul Gandhi to ensure that no irreversible decision affecting ownership or control of strategic public assets was taken by the state government, Harish Rao said it was up to Rahul Gandhi to stop the proposed privatisation TG-Transco by preventing any moves towards an initial public offering.
