State BJP Seeks Rahul Gandhi’s Apology for his Remarks on RSS

Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, attended an RSS programme in 1940 and described the organisation as patriotic.

Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the BJP on Sunday sought an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by recalling its endorsement by India’s prominent leaders.

Speaking to reporters, state BJP vice-president N.V.S.S. Prabhakar said that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru praised the RSS for its selfless service during the India-China war and called for public participation in its activities during his Republic Day address on January 26, 1963.

Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, attended an RSS programme in 1940 and described the organisation as patriotic.

Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, visited RSS camps in 1934 and 1947, and appreciated the discipline of its volunteers. Former president Pranab Mukherjee also described the RSS as a disciplined organisation after visiting its headquarters in Nagpur.

Arguing that Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the RSS were baseless and made without understanding the organisation’s historical contributions, Prabhakar accused Rahul Gandhi of lacking political acumen and historical knowledge, and called his remarks against the RSS "an affront to the nation." Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, he said the Congress has diminished to a major regional force, holding power in only three states.
