SRSP Canals Receive Water For Kharif Season

Officials diverted approximately 300 cusecs of water into the Saraswathi Canal, which serves irrigators in Nirmal district

Nizamabad: Water was released on Thursday from the Sriramsagar project (SRSP) for the Kharif season across the combined districts of Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Karimnagar. Following directives from irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, officials diverted approximately 300 cusecs of water into the Saraswathi Canal, which serves irrigators in Nirmal district. BJP MLA Maheshwar Reddy, alongside numerous elected representatives and local farmers, was present at the project site.

Meanwhile, Sunket Anvesh Reddy, chairman of the Telangana State Seeds Corporation, released roughly 150 cusecs into the Laxmi Canal to benefit Nizamabad district. Additional releases were made into the Indiramma flood‐flow canal at Mupkal.
T. Srinivas Rao Gupta, the SRSP superintending engineer, noted that the State-Level Committee on Integrated Water Management (SCIWAM), under the Telangana Irrigation Department, had approved these releases for Kharif. Water continues to flow through the Kakatiya, Saraswathi, and Lakshmi canals, as well as via the Alisagar and Gutpa lift schemes.
At present, the SRSP water level stands at 1,078.30 feet, with a total storage capacity of 40.582 TMC ft. Inflow is measured at 2,153 cusecs, while outflow totals 7,353 cusecs, of which 3,000 cusecs are being discharged through the Indiramma flood‐flow and Kakatiya main canals. Additionally, approximately 231 cusecs have been allocated for drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha.
