Speculations Over Konda Surekha’s Political Future

The discussions are whether the omissions were merely protocol lapses or due to internal sqabbles in the party.

Warangal:Political speculations surrounding minister Konda Surekha have intensified after her photograph was missing for the second consecutive time from the publicity material at official government programmes here.

This is prompting discussions in Congress circles over whether a “countdown” has begun for the minister.

Surekha’s face was missing from an official flex banner put up during the distribution of ration cards in Mahabubabad district, triggering the political discussions. Before the issue could subside, her picture was missing again - from another official programme held in Kesamudram.

Photographs of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, ministers concerned and local public representatives are generally given prominence in the posters for official programmes. The repeated omission of a minister’s photograph has therefore fuelled speculations over the reasons behind it.

The discussions are whether the omissions were merely protocol lapses or due to internal sqabbles in the party. Disciplinary issues concerning Surekha have already been doing the rounds in political circles.

“Once could be a mistake, but twice could be a signal,” a Congress leader was quoted as saying. However, no official explanation is forthcoming as to why she was not being given due prominence in the party.

Reports suggest that her name was missing from a plaque at the latest programme, apart from its flex banner. This has fuelled doubts in political circles about her discontinuation in the ministerial post.

The issue has emerged as a major talking point in Warangal and Mahabubabad political circles.
