SPDCL restores 57 damaged poles and 44 distribution transformers in record time

The rainfall affected 57 poles and 44 distribution transformers in Greater Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (SPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui on Friday said the staff restored the power supply in a record time replacing damaged electric poles and transformers overnight due to heavy rains that lashed the city on Thursday night.

A statement here said that due to heavy rainfall from Thursday afternoon until yesterday midnight, trees and their branches fell on power lines, causing poles and transformers to collapse. This resulted in power interruptions in several areas. The alert staff worked tirelessly throughout the night until dawn, performing their duties without interruption.

In Greater Hyderabad, the rainfall affected 57 poles and 44 distribution transformers. Notably, seven Distribution Transformers (DTRs) and 23 poles were damaged in Hyderabad central circle jurisdiction, 11 DTRs and 15 poles in Hyderabad south circle jurisdiction, five DTRs in Secunderabad circle jurisdiction, 14 DTRs and three poles in Saroornagar circle, and seven each DTRs and poles were damaged in Habsiguda.

According to Faruqui, there has been a significant improvement in the performance of field staff and officials. During emergencies, they remain available in the field, supervising restoration work and conducting inspections of FOC and substations.

Despite the rain and strong winds hindering restoration efforts yesterday, the staff and officials restored the supply without regard to these challenges. He commended the staff and officials for their efforts and suggested that in the coming days, even when disasters strike, they should continue working with the same spirit and coordination to provide better services to consumers.
