Soya: Farmers Getting Better Yields In Black Soils In Parts Of Adilabad

Soya and cotton crops are in good shape in the black soil agricultural fields: Reports

ADILABAD: Soya farmers are getting better yields in some parts for Kharif, despite a long dry spell and rainfall deficit due to the El Nino effect in Adilabad district. Generally, farmers get an average of 10-12 quintals of yield per acre in the soya crop while ₹5708 is the MSP for soya.

Soya and cotton crops are in good shape in the black soil agricultural fields when compared to red soil. Some farmers claimed that they got 10 quintals of soya per acre in some areas, and the yield is not bad despite the bad weather conditions when compared to the last season. Many farmers are using harvesters for soya cutting.

It may be recalled here that farmers have suffered losses of soya crop, and there was a drop in the yield due to bad weather conditions last year.

Farmers say that soya and cotton crops are good in black soil agricultural fields, which absorb the rains and retain moisture in the soil, while standing cotton and soya crops are not good in red soils, which are popularly called ‘Barkam Bhumulu’ locally.

Farmer Bhumanna of Muktapur village in Jainad mandal said he cultivated soya in 3. 5 acres, completed the crop-cutting in three acres and got 30 quintals.

He also cultivated cotton in another patch of five acres of land but the plants developed cotton bolls. It would take some more days for the bolls to be fully grown for picking.

The soya crop dried up by 20 per cent in some parts of Indravelli, Tamasi, Talamadugu, Bheempur and Adilabad mandals.

Official estimates said farmers cultivated cotton in 4.30 lakh acres, soya in 56,000, red gram in 42,000 and maize in 21,000 acres in the Adilabad district.

Many farmers are busy cutting their soya crops in the Bela and Jaibad mandals, where there is sufficient rainfall for the standing crops, unlike in other areas of Adilabad district.
