South Central Railway Starts Climate Change Awareness Drive Across Zone

Three-week campaign to focus on climate change and green practices

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway on Friday launched a three-week awareness programme ahead of World Environment Day 2026, with a curtain-raiser event focused on “Climate Change – Focusing on the Challenges to Mother Earth”.

The programme, organised as per Railway Board directives, will run across all divisions, stations, colonies, workshops, field units and administrative offices of the zone and conclude on June 5.

At the inaugural event, staff took an environmental pledge and led a signature campaign highlighting collective responsibility towards environmental protection. The event was attended by general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, principal heads of departments, staff and Railway Protection Force personnel.

The Railways said the campaign will include outreach and advocacy activities under ‘Mission LiFE’ to promote behavioural change and public awareness on environmental protection.

Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said, “The environmental pledge is not merely ceremonial, but a reminder that protecting the environment is essential to protecting ourselves. World Environment Day reinforces our collective responsibility to safeguard Mother Earth through sustainable and eco-friendly practices. This year, special focus is being laid on climate change awareness, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” clean air, green spaces, scientific waste management, including e-waste, and achieving Net Zero Emissions in Railways.”

South Central Railway said it has been undertaking measures in afforestation, elimination of single-use plastics, waste management, and conservation of water and energy as part of its ongoing environmental initiatives.
