Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has recorded its highest-ever Gross Originating Revenue of `20,452 crore in the financial year 2024–25, surpassing all previous records since its inception. The zone announced the milestone on Monday, crediting the achievement to outstanding performance across both freight and passenger segments. This year's revenue exceeds the previous best of `Rs 20,335 crore recorded in 2023–24 and `Rs 18,973 crore in 2022–23. A key driver of this growth has been the significant thrust on the freight segment.

SCR focused on enhancing freight services through a combination of customer-centric measures and infrastructure development. Initiatives included expanding freight handling capacity, ensuring the availability of wagons, closely monitoring freight train movement and improving operational conditions at goods sheds. These efforts, supported by periodic policy interventions, led to a record Rs 144.10 million tonnes of originating freight loading — exceeding the previous best of Rs 141.12 million tonnes. The freight segment alone generated `Rs 13,620 crore during the fiscal year.

The passenger segment also played a crucial role in the revenue surge. SCR adopted a strategy of monitoring demand in various directions and responded by introducing new services, operating special trains and augmenting trains with additional coaches wherever necessary. During FY 2024–25, the zone operated approximately 3,500 special trains and attached more than 10,000 extra coaches to meet passenger demand.

These initiatives helped the SCR achieve `Rs 5,710 crore in Originating Passenger Revenue. A total of Rs 26. 32 crore originating passengers were carried during 2024–25, slightly up from Rs 26.25 crore in 2023–24. In addition, the zone earned its highest-ever revenue of `Rs 513.6 crore from the other coaching segment, which includes income from parcel services and ticket checking. SCR also registered `Rs 402.7 crore in sundry earnings from sources such as parking, catering and advertisements.
