Son Kills Mother After Argument Over Instagram Relationship

A 21-year-old man slit his mother’s throat following an argument over her alleged relationship with a man she had met through Instagram, at Balajinagar in Kazipet’s 47th division on Thursday.

Stating this, police said the accused, Dorababu, fled the house after the incident.

According to family members and locals, Nagula Sudhakar and his wife Udayashree, 40, lived in Balajinagar with their son Dorababu, daughter and Sudhakar’s elderly mother. Sudhakar works as an attendant in a private organisation and is said to support the family along with his mother’s railway pension.

Dorababu was pursuing a BBA at a college in the city.

Udayashree, who stayed at home, was reportedly active on Instagram and made reels. Family members alleged that she became acquainted with a man from Karimnagar district through Instagram around four years ago and that the acquaintance later developed into a close relationship.

The man reportedly visited their Balajinagar residence occasionally in recent months. The two were also said to have decided to set up a separate household.

After the conclusion of Ganesh Navaratri celebrations, the man allegedly asked Udayashree to leave the house after informing her family about their relationship. When she attempted to leave the house on Thursday morning, Dorababu reportedly came to know about it. He took his mother into a bedroom, saying he wanted to speak to her, and locked the door.

Family members said the two argued for some time inside the room.

Dorababu allegedly tried to persuade his mother to end the relationship, but she did not agree. He allegedly picked up a knife kept in the room and slit her throat.

Dorababu later came out of the room and reportedly told family members that he had killed his mother. Neighbours were alerted and he fled from the house.

Kazipet police reached the spot and inspected the scene. Central DCP Dara Kavitha and Kazipet ACP Pingili Prashanth Reddy went there and made enquiries with the family members about the circumstances leading to the murder.

Clues and fingerprint teams collected evidence from the scene. Police said they have launched a search for the accused.
