Social Media Split Wide Open Over Smita Sabharwal Post — IAS Officer Faces Heat & Support Alike

A digital warzone, with netizens firing opinions along party lines.

Hyderabad: The internet is buzzing after IAS officer Smita Sabharwal posted about cooperating with Gachibowli police regarding a repost critical of the Telangana government. But what followed? A digital warzone, with netizens firing opinions along party lines.

One user hit out with pointed questions:
"Madam, where was your voice when 25 lakh trees were axed for the Kaleshwaram project? Or when 5,000 acres of forest were destroyed in BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh? What about the 300+ deer deaths in HCU between 2014–2023? No posts then—only now?"

Another raised eyebrows over conduct:
"You're an IAS officer. Ever heard of AIS Conduct Rules? Neutrality isn't optional. Share opinions in official meetings—not on social media. Don’t play the victim card!"

A user reminded her that reposting isn’t the same for everyone:
"You're not a private citizen. You're a public servant. If this is a personal handle, say so clearly. Otherwise, this looks like an official endorsement of anti-govt content."

A Congress supporter wasn’t impressed either:
"You have access to the facts and still chose to spread fake news? Irresponsible for someone in your position!"

Meanwhile, voices of support rolled in—mostly from BRS sympathisers:
"You stood up for freedom of expression and against tyranny—respect to you, Smita garu!"
"People are with you ?? More power to you!"

A neutral-toned commenter expressed surprise:
"With due respect, Madam, your role comes with extra responsibility. Fact-checking should be second nature for a civil servant."

One user didn’t hold back:
"If you're this passionate, resign and join politics or start an NGO. But don’t misuse the IAS platform for activism!"
