According to sources, the local police telephoned Ganesh’s brother Ashok, who stays in Nalgonda, and informed him about the death of his brother in an encounter with the police in Odisha.

Nalgonda: Maoist central committee member Uike Ganesh, 65, alias Paka Hanumanthu, killed in an encounter with the security forces in Odisha, had started his association with left-leaning organisations while in college.
Ganesh was a native of Pulklemla of Chandur mandal in Nalgonda district. He was the elder son of Chandraiah and Yettamma, who had three sons and three daughters.
According to sources, the local police telephoned Ganesh’s brother Ashok, who stays in Nalgonda, and informed him about the death of his brother in an encounter with the police in Odisha.
Ganesh had completed his school education at Chandur. He joined the Radical Students’ Union while studying in Nagarjuna Degree College in 1980 and was elected cultural secretary of college students’ union. Discontinuing his BSc after completion of second year, Ganesh joined the armed dalam of CPI(ML)-Peoples’ War) in 1982.
Ganesh went underground after his name was listed as an accused in the murder of ABVP leader Achuri Srinivas in 1982. He didn’t have a history of working in armed dalams in Nalgonda district, but was associated with the Maoist in Dandakaranyam of Chhattisgarh. He was the central committee in-charge of Odisha.
Sources said he had not been seen in Nalgonda district after 1982. He had not come to his native place since the death of his parents; his mother Yettamma died eight months ago. None of his family members were residing in his native place.
