Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri commissionerate police have arrested six persons of Nepalese origin for allegedly sedating a retired couple and fleeing with 60 tola gold, 15 kilograms of silver and $3,000 on May 12. The gang was arrested near the Rathifile bus station in Secunderabad, police said.
Announcing the arrest, Malkajgiri police commissioner B. Sumati said the breakthrough came when the police identified Rajesh and Meena of Nepal who were working in India for the past few years and been recently employed by the victims Dr Murali Mohan and his wife Dr Vijaya Lakshmi at their residence in Kowkoor.
Police identified the other gang members as Sabeena alias Sunitha, Chang, Samrat, Biswal, Kamal, and Jankar alias Shankar. Meena helped Sabeena join work as a help in the house, and introduced Rajesh as her husband on April 25, Sumathi said.
To allow the other gang members to get together, Meena staged a fake birthday celebration on May 11 at servant quarters of the victim family’s house. At about 8.30 pm, the gang entered the house of the victims, sedated them, bound them hand and foot, broke open almirahs and fled with the valuables.

Sumathi said that Meena alias Mamtha and Rajesh were previously involved in a house break-in in Crime No. 78 of 2023 registered by the Moinabad police. Scientific evidence and fingerprint examination conducted at the scene of offence resulted in identification of Meena.
The commissioner said six teams were deployed to Bengaluru, Lucknow and Nepal border areas for tracing and apprehending the accused. The teams analysed technical evidence, footage of more than 250 CCTV cameras and field intelligence over five days and traced and arrested the gang at the Rathifile bus station in Secunderabad. Three associates of the accused were listed absconding.
