Six Maoists, Including Women, Killed In An Alleged Encounter At Karregutta

Hyderabad:At least six Maoists, including women, were killed and two security personnel were injured in an alleged exchange of fire between central forces and the banned Maoist group at Karregutta, on the border of Telangana and Chhattisgarh. The Maoists encountered are suspected to have been serving as guards for senior leaders of the banned organisation.

The exchange of fire is still ongoing in forested areas near Bheemavaram Padu, Pujari Kanker, and Pamedu. CRPF officials have yet to confirm the total number of Maoist casualties in the incident.

Suspecting that key Maoist leaders may be hiding in Karregutta and in possession of substantial ammunition, the central forces have intensified combing operations using a chopper to identify Maoist hideouts along the Telangana border.

According to sources, heavy security deployment has been arranged to establish a base camp in the Karregutta forest region, a known Maoist stronghold.

Chhattisgarh home minister Vijay Sharma is closely monitoring the situation and receiving regular updates from top officials as combing operations continue. There are concerns that the death toll may rise as operations intensify in the forested terrain.

Security forces launched the operation following credible intelligence reports about the movement of top Maoist leaders, including the most-wanted Hidma, senior cadre Damodar, and Azad, in Karregutta. In response, a massive joint operation involving over 5,000 personnel from the DRG (District Reserve Guard), Bastar Fighters, COBRA, CRPF, and STF was initiated.

Authorities have sealed off access to nearby villages that serve as entry points into the dense Dandakaranya forest, effectively cutting off Maoist escape routes and minimising civilian movement for safety. The situation remains tense as forces push deeper into Maoist-controlled zones, aiming to neutralise high-value targets and dismantle their regional network.
