They are among the six motorcyclists, including a police constable and a student, who suffered serious neck injuries in separate incidents reported across the city over 13 days.

Hyderabad:M. Madhu, 22, suffered severe injuries to his throat and hands after his motorcycle after he rode into sharp nylon string stretching across the road near a mall in Yacharam mandal. In another case, G. Veeraiah, 33, sustained deep throat injuries after running into a strand of Chinese Manja while crossing the Amberpet flyover. Both victims are undergoing treatment at private hospitals, police said.

They are among the six motorcyclists, including a police constable and a student, who suffered serious neck injuries in separate incidents reported across the city over 13 days.

On December 30, 29-year-old T. Ashok was slashed by the glass-coated thread while riding past a theatre in Saidabad. He was found bleeding profusely by traffic constable M. Kranthi, who rushed him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

On December 29, the deadly string nearly proved fatal for food delivery executive Md. Jameel at Shamsheergunj. The abrasive thread wrapped around his neck, causing a deep gash. He was shifted to a private hospital, where doctors had to administer 22 sutures.

On December 26, Jashwanth Reddy, a BTech student, suffered severe neck injuries under the Keesara police station limits while riding his bike. He continues to remain under medical observation at a private hospital.

On December 25, Shivraj, attached to the Langer Houz traffic police station, was injured when the synthetic string entangled his neck while he was commuting on the Tilak Nagar-Narayanguda flyover.

Despite a standing ban on the sale and use of synthetic manja due to its life-threatening risk to humans and birds, its use continues unabated ahead of the Sankranti festival. Police have cautioned commuters, especially two-wheeler riders, to remain extremely vigilant while using flyovers and open stretches of roads.
