Hyderabad:In connection with the ongoing phone-tapping case, former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) officer T. Prabhakar Rao appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday for over seven hours. He was questioned based on statements collected from other witnesses.
The focus was on establishing who authorised the tapping and how it was carried out during the 2023 Assembly election period under the BJP government.
Meanwhile, the SIT served a notice under Section 160 CrPC to Congress MLC Chintapandu Naveen Kumar, asking him to appear before the July 17. The notice, issued by the Jubilee Hills ACP, stated that Naveen’s phone number was found on the Lawful Interception (LI) list maintained by the SIB during the elections.
Officials said the probe is ongoing, with several officers and individuals already questioned, and more scheduled to appear in the coming days.
The SIT, led by investigating officer P. Venkatagiri, is probing the case initially registered at Punjagutta police station in December 2023 under the IPC, the Prevention of Damage to Public Properties Act, and the Information Technology Act.
