SIT questions Prabhakar Rao for a week; Supreme Court hearing due Friday

Hyderabad: The custodial interrogation of former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief and prime accused T. Prabhakar Rao in the unauthorised phone tapping case concluded on Thursday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) questioned Prabhakar Rao for a week with the permission of the Supreme Court. On the final day of interrogation, he reportedly disclosed details regarding his role in the alleged phone tapping to investigators.

The phone tapping case is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court on Friday. The SIT is expected to submit a report on the week-long interrogation to the apex court.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar reviewed the progress of the investigation with the SIT. Police sources said the SIT is likely to file a counter seeking to vacate the relief granted to Prabhakar Rao and may also move a petition seeking further custody.

The SIT will proceed in accordance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court after Friday’s hearing, sources added.
