SIR To Begin In Telangana From June 15
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy on Saturday said the SIR of electoral rolls would be conducted in the state from June 15th, 2026.

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudharshan Reddy on Saturday announced that the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll will be conducted in the state from June 15, marking the first such exercise in 24 years. The last SIR was held in undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2002.
Over 40,000 election staff, including 35,000 booth level officers (BLOs), will be deployed across the state to visit residences, distribute partially pre‑filled enumeration forms, and collect them back. Citizens may also submit forms digitally via the Election Commission website or the ECINET application, with overseas residents allowed to file online.
Sudharshan Reddy clarified that no supporting documents will be collected during the initial enumeration phase except the form itself. “Except the enumeration form, no other document is collected during the enumeration phase. The names of all voters whose forms are received will be included in the draft rolls,” he said.
The draft notification of electoral rolls will be issued on July 31, with claims and objections accepted until August 30. The final rolls will be published on October 1. After the draft publication, rationalisation of polling stations will be carried out.
The CEO said the initiative was aimed at sanitising voter lists by correcting errors and addressing grievances raised by political parties. “The main idea of SIR is that no eligible citizen should be left out and no ineligible elector should be included,” he stressed.
As of now, Telangana has 35,000 polling stations catering to 3.4 crore voters. Meetings have been held thrice with political parties, who were urged to appoint booth level agents (BLAs) to assist BLOs in identifying voters and households. Many parties have already appointed BLAs.
Asked about the ruling Congress’ demand for conducting the SIR over a two-year period as no elections were due, Sudharshan Reddy said the process would be completed in three to four months as per Election Commission guidelines, though additional time could be sought if required.
The CEO reiterated that while the National Register of Citizens (NRC) document is listed nationally among 12 identification options, it has no relevance or application in Telangana.
