ECI says nearly 2 lakh hearings completed as notices are issued in phases

Hyderabad: About one-third of SIR notices have been delivered to the voters in Telangana whose details had anomalies.

The ECI has issued over 31 lakh notices, from 92.88 lakhs to voters with anomalies, which were generated by ERONET, a centralised web-based application developed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to manage and clean the electoral rolls.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudarshan Reddy informed on Tuesday that hearings for close to 2 lakh have already been completed. Officials have informed that remaining 61 lakh notices will be delivered in a phased manner.

Hearings on 1,94,737 Notices have been held at each AERO (Assistant Electoral Registration Officer) level. “Remaining notices will be delivered in a phased manner, and the same will be heard in the coming days within the period stipulated by the ECI by the 1973 AEROs and 119 EROs.

By Tuesday, a total of 9,07,292 'Claims and Objections' had also been received. Out of which, 3,94,517 are through Form-6 (for enrolment as new Voter), 6,346 are through Form-6A (for enrolment as new Overseas Voter), 48,752 are through Form-7 (objections/deletions from draft Electoral Rolls) and 4,57,677 are through Form-8 (corrections in draft Electoral Rolls).
