Hyderabad:Electors in the city are irked by the cumbersome process involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 exercise. The hearing of SIR notices is currently underway, with many electors complaining that they are being asked to produce identity documents to establish their date of birth and address anomalies in electoral records.
Several people said they had filled in their names in the SIR forms based on their Aadhaar cards, but their names did not match those in the 2002 electoral rolls, resulting in notices being issued.
As part of the SIR hearing, electors who received notices have been asked to submit copies of identity documents specified by the Election Commission of India, including SSC certificates, PAN cards or passports.
Those who did not have a vote in 2002 but furnished their parents' details have been asked to submit their parents' Aadhaar cards, electors said.
A senior citizen said he mentioned his name as Kolluru Hari Shankar Sharma in the SIR 2026 form, while it appeared as KHS Sharma in the 2002 electoral rolls. He subsequently received a notice and was asked to submit identity proof.
"They asked me for one ID proof, but I gave three and they accepted them," he said.
Another elector alleged that election authorities had placed his 83-year-old mother, M. Rama Devi, on the Absentee, Shifted and Dead (ASD) voters list.
"My mother is alive. How can they mark her on the ASD list?" he asked.
He also said that although he and his mother lived in the same house, they were assigned different polling stations.
"While my polling station is in Anandbagh, Malkajgiri, near my house, my mother's polling station is in Alwal, which is far away," he said.
He alleged that the discrepancy had existed for a couple of years and claimed it could discourage some voters from exercising their franchise.
