Singareni Ups Coal Production Target by 20 Lakh Tonnes to Meet Power Demand

Average daily production of coal at various SCCL collieries has been increased from 1.5 lakh tonnes to 1.70 lakh tonnes.

To meet the increasing demand for power, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has increased coal production targets across its operational areas. The extra coal will be earmarked for thermal power stations to meet the increasing electricity demand.

The average daily production of coal at various SCCL collieries is 1.5 lakh tonnes. The management has enhanced the targeted production to 1.70 lakh tonnes to meet the needs of power plants. Besides, the production hours are also being increased.

Due to deficit rainfall across the state, the demand for electricity, both for agriculture and household purposes, has increased. As water tanks, ponds, and canals have no water, farmers are completely dependent on borewells and open wells to protect their standing crops.

Farmers are thus using their agriculture pump sets and motors to draw water and wet their standing crops. Usage of power for agricultural purposes has thus increased abnormally.

Coming to households, they are using fans, coolers, or air-conditioners. Similarly, the household consumption has also increased due to soaring heat conditions.

With this power demand has increased. As there is no hydel power generation at reservoirs, electricity authorities have ordered that generation of thermal power be increased at all power stations. This has led to an increase in demand for additional coal from Singareni.

Telangana government has thus directed SCCL to increase its coal production. Incidentally, Singareni Collieries is the only company which is supplying coal to thermal power stations in the state.

Singareni sources said the company management has enhanced its annual production to 66.11 million tonnes from 65 million tonnes for the financial year 2026-27.

Of its 11 operational areas, SCCL has ordered that daily production be increased at the Kothagudem, Sathupalli, Manugur, Bellampalli, RG-2, and Bhupalpally mines.

Kothagudem will increase its production to 3 million tonnes per day (MTPD) from 2.25 million tonnes, Sattupalli 14.80 MTPD from 13.40 MTPD, Manugur 12.21 MTPD from 9.62 MTPD, Bellampalli 3.75 MTPD from 3.50 MTPD, RG-2 9.94 MTPD 9.87 MTPD, and Bhupalpally 4.60 MTPD from 3.60 MTPD.
