Singareni to Supply Coal to Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu will be the first state to receive coal from the Naini block

HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will begin supplying 2.88 million tonnes of G-11 grade coal annually from its Naini coal block in Odisha to the Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation (TANGEDCO). The Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) between the two entities is expected to be signed within the next 10 days.

At a review meeting held at Singareni Bhavan, SCCL CMD N. Balram and TANGEDCO managing director M. Govind Rao finalised the arrangements for the new supply linkage. Rao said the coal would be used for Tamil Nadu’s 1,200 MW thermal power plant at Udangudi in Thoothukudi district.

Balram confirmed that coal production at the Naini block had commenced and assured that SCCL was ready to transport the consignments through both rail and waterways. He instructed officials to expedite the logistics and complete the FSA formalities within the stipulated timeframe.

Tamil Nadu will be the first state to receive coal from the Naini block. SCCL already supplies 1.75 million tonnes of coal annually to TANGEDCO’s North Chennai thermal power plant. The meeting was also attended by executive director (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna and general manager (coordination and marketing) T. Srinivas.
