Singareni to Ramp Up Coal Supplies From Odisha’s Naini Mines to Yadadri Plant

SCCL chairman and managing director Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti issued directives on the matter to area general managers on Thursday, emphasising the need to prioritise coal movement to meet the state’s energy needs.

Hyderabad:Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) is set to significantly increase daily coal supplies from Naini mines in Odisha’s Argul district to the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant, located at Veerlapalem in Nalgonda district’s Dameracherla mandal, from the current 2,100 tonnes to between 10,000 and 14,000 tonnes. The move comes amid the El Nino impact on rainfall, prompting the state to boost coal availability for all thermal power stations.

SCCL chairman and managing director Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti issued directives on the matter to area general managers on Thursday, emphasising the need to prioritise coal movement to meet the state’s energy needs. During a detailed review with directors and the executive director (coal movement), Dr Jyoti instructed officials to coordinate closely with Odisha’s Angul district administration to resolve logistical bottlenecks and expedite road transport of coal to railway sidings.

Currently, coal is being moved at night via trucks due to local constraints. Dr Jyoti directed SCCL to increase the number of trucks and, if needed, float new transport contracts to ensure faster movement of coal. He also asked officials to maintain adequate rake availability at rail sidings and work in tandem with state GenCo to avoid any supply gaps. Naini GM Baidya confirmed sufficient coal stockpiles are available near the mine.
