Hyderabad:Kumar Pillai, vice-resident of special projects at the Singapore Zoo, visited the Nehru Zoological Park here on Monday as part of his official tour to India.

He was welcomed by zoo parks director Dr Sunil S. Hiremath and zoo curator J. Vasantha, who briefed him about the zoo’s maintenance, breeding programme, and ongoing development work.

Pillai praised the zoo’s maintenance, especially the open enclosures with water barriers for endangered animals. He also appreciated the successful breeding of Asiatic lions, Bengal tigers, and one-horned rhinoceroses, along with the zoo’s efforts to release mouse deer back into the wild.

This was Pillai’s third visit to the zoo, having previously visited in the 1990s and in 1975. He noted significant improvements over the years in animal care, hygiene, and vaccination programmes.
